Director of Sustainability

In support of Beautycounterís rapid growth and product expansion, we are seeking a Director of Sustainability. The position will take responsibility for all sustainability initiatives across our supply chain and corporate functions globally.

To be successful in this role you will:

  • Provide overall sustainability leadership including: strategy development
  • Establish KPI measures and improvement targets, value generation initiatives and management of relationships with key influencers.  
  • Enhance the Beautycounter reputation for excellence in product safety, sustainability and corporate responsibility through active engagement with organizations and like-minded companies.
  • Develop a thorough understanding of our formulation strategy, all major issues related to cosmetic ingredient safety, the Never List, our Restricted Substances List and relevant industry safety data.  
  • Develop a point of view on major chemicals of concern with respect to how they can be more responsibly sourced while respecting the need for industry leading safety.  
  • Ensure that suppliers are utilizing socially and environmentally responsible methods of bringing their products to market.  Actively participate in the product development process and utilize facts, diplomacy, financial analysis and other means to influence the selection of more sustainable ingredients.
  • Study the full range of packaging materials and suppliers currently used in Beautycounter products.  
  • Review our existing Restricted Materials List for packaging to develop an understanding of the safety issues behind certain materials.  
  • Develop a point of view as to how sustainable these packaging materials are and prepare recommendations on areas of opportunity.  
  • Ensure our packaging suppliers are utilizing socially and environmentally responsible methods for bringing their products to market.  
  • Actively participate in the product development process and utilize facts, diplomacy, financial analysis and other means to influence the selection of more sustainable packaging.
  • Assess the operational footprint of Beautycounter operations including our corporate offices, employee travel, supply chain partners, contract manufacturers, transportation and logistics providers, etc.  
  • Develop and refine measures and targets including opportunities to offset our impacts where appropriate.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelorís degree required, preference for Sustainability, Environmental Science or relevant degree with appropriate experience, an MBA is a plus
  • Ability to travel up to 25%
